About Endau RompinThe Endau Rompin area straddles the two states of Johor and Pahang in Peninsular Malaysia. It special because it is one of the few remaining areas of vast virgin lowland rain forest in the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia. This is practically mainland Asia‘s southern most expanse of tropical rain forest. The area, which is well known as a sanctuary for wildlife, is also home to many rare and unique species of plants and animals, ecological habitats.
With the oldest rock dated at latest 248 million years old, Endau Rompin has been a land of diverse landscape, characterized by wildlife river traverses, plateaux and isolated mountain peaks. The highest mountain, Gunung Besar, (1306 m a.s.l), is found in the western part of the Park. The main river, Sungai Endau, is the backbone of the drainage system. This river and its headwaters are effectively the lifeline of the area. As result of past geological activity, the activity, the area has been transformed into one of the most picturesque landscape in the country.
The Rompin area, in which plant fossil around 140 million years old (late Jurassic) have been found, includes some of the oldest rainforest ecosystems in this part of the world. Over the millennia, countless life forms and tremendous diversity of species have developed in this warm and humid environment.
