Mamalink was established in 1991 in Kuala Lumpur by Christine Choong to provide research based information and practical assistance to expectant parents and breastfeeding families, in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Christine is a UK trained nurse and midwife, a qualified lactation consultant, and a certified childbirth educator with many years of experience in Malaysia. She also has experience as a birth companion in Kuala Lumpur.
Pregnancy should be a joyful and exciting time in any couple's life, but it is often fraught with anxieties and conflicting or confusing information. Our aim is to help guide you through this challenging time by providing you with information, building up your confidence and encouraging you to be involved in decision making whenever possible. We also hope to prepare you for both the expected and the unexpected aspects of labour & birth.
Mamalink offers classes with an emphasis on natural birthing. Classes consist of small informal groups to allow free discussion and interaction. The classes are designed to help parents make decisions relating to pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and early parenting. Theoretical aspects include care of the mother during pregnancy, nutrition for pregnant and nursing mothers, the process of labour, methods of pain relief available during labour, assisted and caesarian births, breastfeeding and care of the newborn. Practical aspects include relaxation, breathing awareness, comfort positions for labour, use of massage in labour, delivery positions for easier birth and aspects of breastfeeding. Fathers are encouraged to actively participate.
As childbirth is only the beginning and breastfeeding for many mothers is a learned art, Mamalink is pleased to provide breastfeeding services to assist you. Individualised assistance is provided for mothers and babies with breastfeeding problems, for pregnant mothers requiring information on breastfeeding after delivery, for mothers who are planning to return to work and continue breastfeeding and for mothers wishing to breastfeed adopted babies.

Christine Choong
Founder & proprieter of Mamalink. She is a registered nurse and midwife from the UK, was the first in Malaysia to qualify as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and has a Graduate Diploma in Childbirth Education. Christine is also a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) accredited by International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).
She has extensive experience working with breastfeeding mothers and training health workers in Malaysia since the early 80's. She has been conducting small group prenatal classes for more than 16 years and has experience as a birth companion (doula) in Malaysia. She has also contributed articles on birthing and breastfeeding to parenting magazines.
Christine and her obstetrician husband have three grown children, one born in UK & two in Malaysia.
