Elementary Program and Curriculum

Our elementary program is designed to lead the student to abstract work - writing, dialogue, and skills in the process of exploration. Children naturally want to learn more about this language and humanities because it is an area they are learning and developing for themselves in their own social interaction. Communication is a strong social need at this level. The learning environment is carefully structured for challenge and success a all level. This is also the age when the child develops a moral sense, learning what is right and wrong. Character Firsts comes in to help our students to develop character qualities that bring success in all areas of life.

Our teachers are not "forcing students to regurgitate facts", however, there are sufficient regular evaluations test so that these skills are practiced and evaluate. This will be reported to parents through Progress Reports and parent interviews. Students have the attitude of checking their own work and learning more as they move ahead through individual effort with personal attention from the teacher.

There are five area of focus.

* Basic knowledge of pinyin
* Basic knowledge of strokes and stroke order of characters
* Listening and speaking skills
* Art, games, music and songs
* Character First

In basic knowledge of pinyin children will be exposed to the phonetic symbols and tones from the very beginning. Children will overcome temporary confusion within a short period of time, and will eventually acquire good pronunciation and intonation of mandarin with on going reinforcement of pinyin practice.

In basic knowledge of strokes and stroke order of characters will teach the student character formation system. Once the children have a good grasp of radicals and simple characters, they will be able to analyze most of the compound characters they encounter, and to memorize new characters in a logical way.

Children at this age tend to learn vocabulary related to their environment. Therefore, chosen topics are: family members, animals, food, colors, clothing, dialy articles, schools facilities, modes of transport, etc. the topics, vocabulary and sentence structures in the previous level will reappear to consolidate and reinforce memory. Simple sentence structures with particular emphasis on listening and speaking skills. Children will develop oral communication skills through audio exercises, dialogues, questions and answers, and speaking practice. In order to reinforce and consolidate knowledge, games are designed to crate a fun learning environment.

There are many opportunities for group activities on a regular basis through art and craft to make objects from actual classroom lessons. Group time is a wonderful time for songs, music, and games. There are also dramas and plays introduced to the children with music.
