 Clothing
1 Day-wear bodysuits     Flame-retardant. Look for crotch-snaps for easy-wear. Avoid zips and rough seams  
2 Sleep suits    
3 Cottony tops     Soft hems to avoid irritating baby’s cord  
4 Dress-up clothes     Avoid buttons/ bows that can choke baby  
5 Mittens     These tend to go missing in the wash so get similar colours to ensure they always match  
6 Booties/ socks      
7 Hat     Preferably made of natural fibres likeultra-soft cotton or wool  
8 Jacket/ sweater      
 Diapering
1 Cotton nappies     At least two dozen   
2 Waterproof underpants     Velcro fasteners make clean-ups quick   
3 Disposable diapers     Buy two different brands in case one causes diaper rash. Don’t buy too many!  
4 Diaper-changing pad     A lining towel/ nappy ensures comfort  
5 Covered pail/ trashcan     For soiled diapers  
 Bath-Time
1 Bath tub     Plastic tub with non-skid lining/ grooves  
2 Cloths hamper     For soiled clothes  
3 Bath towels     Choose snug cotton or hooded terry towels   
4 Facecloths/ washcloths     Buy different colours for face and bottom  
 Toiletries
1 Baby wash/ shampoo     A two-in-one wash/ shampoo is helpful. Choose toiletries that are safe for sensitive skin. Get wipes in pop-up containers. Don’t buy too many wipes.

2 Baby wipes      
3 Baby lotion/ moisturiser      
4 Baby oil      
5 Barrier cream     Look for creams with zinc oxide  
6 Baby powder     Preferably talc-free and cornstarch based  
7 Hair brush     Soft-bristled and usually paired with a comb   
8 Nail scissors     Choose baby-safe nail scissors  
9 Cotton buds     Clean only the outside of baby’s ears  
 Toys, Soothers & Medical Must-Haves
1 Storybooks     Board books with large text and pictures  
2 CD player/ musical toys     Musical toys like rattles/mobiles/ aquariums   
3 Plush/ squeaking toys     Avoid toys/ squeakers with choking hazards  
4 Pacifiers     Keep a few handy in case one gets dirty   
5 Thermometer     Ear thermometers are easiest to use  
6 Medicine dropper     For easy dispensing of baby’s medicine  
7 Baby chest/ belly balm     Massage gently. Soothes colds/belly ache  
 Feeding
1 Breast pump set with bag     Electric beats manual in speed and ease  
2 Milk storage containers     Sterilise before use  
3 Feeding bottles     Get 120ml and 240ml varieties  
4 Feeding teats     Look for newborn size  
5 Steriliser     Size should match number of bottles bought  
6 Tongs     For fishing out hot bottles from steriliser  
7 Bottle drying rack     Optional but nice to have  
8 Bottle and teat brushes     Is paired together in some brands  
9 Infant formula     Check expiry date  
10 Feeding bibs     Choose cotton bibs for best comfort   
12 Burp cloth/ towel     Or use facecloth/ cotton nappy  
 Out & About
1 Car seat     Infant seat with secure seatbelts  
2 Receiving blanket     May be used as a stroller blanket too  
3 Stroller     Infant-to-toddler stroller. Smooth steering  
4 Baby sling or sarong     To carry baby on stroller-free days  
 Nursery Furniture & Bedding
1 Sturdy baby crib    

Print and bring along the nursery safety guide before buying nursery furniture.

Purchase all bedding linen such as sheets, blankets and bumper
pads at the same store for coordinated results.
